Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that Harry Winks can become of the best midfielders for England.
Winks is only 21 years of age and is not guaranteed a place in the Tottenham starting lineup, and he has also been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
Pochettino, though, has spoken highly of the England Under-21 international midfielder and has backed him to become a key player for the Three Lions in the coming years.
“He is a very good prospect, a very dynamic player who plays very well with the ball, and without the ball he’s very aggressive,” the Tottenham manager told Football.London about Winks.
“I think he only needs time to develop his game and be consistent and show his quality but, in time, why not? He can be one of the best midfielders for England.”
Winks has scored one goal and provided one assist in 21 Premier League appearances for Tottenham so far this season, only three of which have been starts.
The English youngster is certainly a very promising midfielder, and it seems that Pochettino rates him highly.
Competition for places in the Tottenham midfield is hard, but the manager’s comments show that if Winks continues to work hard and develops, then he could establish himself as a key player for the North London outfit.
