Tottenham Hotspur produced a thrilling come-from-behind win against Ajax in the Champions League semi-final.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino sat down for an exclusive interview with Guillem Balague for BBC Radio Five Live, and opened up on an interesting observation made by Danny Rose in the aftermath of Lucas Moura’s thrilling late winner away at Ajax in the Champions League semi-final.

Spurs seemed to be heading out against the Dutch side before Dele Alli found Moura with a brilliant through ball deep into injury time, and the Brazilian made no mistake, cooly slotting the ball past Andre Onana.

At first glance, Dele’s ball into the path of Moura was inch perfect, and highlighted the Tottenham ace’s exceptional vision and touch.

Was it all as it seemed, however?

Not according to Danny Rose.

Pochettino told Balague how the Spurs left-back had a theory about his fellow England international’s part in the goal:

Danny Rose of Spurs in action during the UEFA Champions League group H match between Tottenham Hotspur and APOEL Nikosia at Wembley Stadium on December 6, 2017 in London, United Kingdom.

“I don’t know if the ball was for Lucas, but Danny Rose told me afterwards ‘Gaffer, do you think the ball from Dele was for Lucas or for Fernando?’ I said ‘I think it was for Lucas’. He said ‘No way, it wasn’t for Lucas! He wanted to play it for Fernando’. Danny showed me on a screen, he said ‘look he didn’t see him’. Danny is very clever.”

Whether Dele meant the pass for Lucas is neither here not there at the end of the day – the assist go down as arguably the most important of his career to date.

And the Tottenham ace will be hoping to influence the final in the same manner tomorrow night.
