Tottenham Hotspur’s title hopes were dealt a real blow after Saturday’s defeat to Burnley.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters yesterday, ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea tonight, and admitted that changing the mentality at the club could take another five years, as quoted by Football.London.
Spurs have not win the top flight title since 1961, and they are without a major trophy since their League Cup triumph way back in 2008.
Many tipped the north London outfit to end that barren run this season, but they are already out of both domestic cups, leaving just the Premier League and the Champions League as their only hopes for glory.
Pochettino spoke to reporters, and admitted that it is a real worry for him that Tottenham’s evolution could take another five years to manifest, as quoted by Football.London:
“If you watch the game again, with players with some names, with some different names, that is you know what happened, and my worry is what happened and to change that is not only five years of work, maybe it is 10 years of work to change that thing that happened here.”
Tottenham have a great chance to quickly banish the memories of Saturday’s defeat to Burnley with two games against their fiercest rivals Chelsea and Arsenal to come over the next four days.
And a return of six points form those outings would surely fire them straight back into the title race.
