Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has made a bold statement, saying Spurs are the most popular club in London.
The Argentine also adds that Spurs have a football heritage at par with Manchester United and Liverpool – the two giants of English football.
Tottenham usually used to finish just outside the Premier League’s top four. Arsenal have always finished inside the top four, while Chelsea have won three Premier League titles in the Premier League era.
However, since Pochettino took charge of Spurs in 2014, there has been a steady improvement for the north London side.
Spurs broke into the top four last season, and this campaign they are challenging Chelsea for the Premiership title.
Under Pochettino, Spurs are playing an exciting and entertaining brand of football. And with a new world-class stadium on the horizon, Pochettino believes Spurs have overtaken Chelsea and Arsenal to become the most popular club in London.
“I would love to be here for as long as possible because it’s a club with history, a club that is the most popular in London, more than Arsenal and Chelsea,” Pochettino told Cadena Ser. “Tottenham is a historic club at the same level as Manchester United and Liverpool.”
Spurs are just four points behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League and they still have a chance to lift the trophy. Tottenham will face Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup as well at Wembley on Saturday.
