Vincent Janssen is yet to score from open play for Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told FourFourTwo that it is already abundantly clear that Vincent Janssen is a team player.
Janssen has joined Spurs from AZ Alkmaar, and he has endured a difficult opening in English football.
The 22-year-old has generally been used as a back-up option for Tottenham in their Premier League matches throughout the campaign to date.
However, he was selected to start against Liverpool in the EFL Cup last night, and he managed to hit the back of the net during the contest.
Janssen stepped up to smash a penalty beyond Simon Mignolet, during Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Anfield.
It was only the second time Janssen has hit the back of the net for Spurs, but Pochettino is not concerned about his striker’s struggles in front of goal.
“We need to understand that he’s 22, he’s come in from the Netherlands, a different league, and always we need to give time,” Pochettino said.
“But one thing is clear, that he is a player who works a lot, who is always involved and the commitment he shows in every game and every training session is fantastic.”
Janssen’s two goals for Spurs have both come from the penalty spot so far, with his link-up play earning him more plaudits than his finishing ability.
The Dutch international looks likely to drop back to the substitutes’ bench in Tottenham’s next match, which comes against Leicester City at the weekend.
