Mauricio Pochettino says Dele Alli has matured and improved

Dele Alli is one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told The London Evening Standard that Dele Alli has matured and improved a lot.

Alli is one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League and is a key figure in the current Tottenham squad.

As the following Opta Stats table shows, the 20-year-old was brilliant for Spurs last season and has not done too badly so far this campaign.

There are doubts on Alli’s temperament, though, as he was caught on camera punching Claudio Yacob during a Premier League game between Tottenham and West Bromwich Albion last season.

Spurs manager Pochettino has said that the England international has matured and improved since that incident during the 2015-16 campaign.

“From that moment [against West Brom] I think he has improved a lot,” Pochettino told The London Evening Standard about Alli. “He is now more calm and mature on the pitch.

“It was a situation that happened on the pitch, he was banned and it was a moment for him to learn. It was a special period for us, fighting for the title at the end of the season and it was difficult for us.

“We are clever and we have to learn from that experience. But we are more mature than we were last season.”

Tottenham are going strong in the Premier League at the moment and are in the running for the league title.

The North London outfit are currently second in the standings with 17 points from seven matches, just a point behind leaders Manchester City.

Spurs will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on West Brom away from home at The Hawthorns in the Premier League.
