Tottenham Hotspur beat Newcastle United yesterday in their Premier League opener.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters after his side’s well-earned victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park yesterday, and responded when asked why Kieran Trippier didn’t feature, as quoted by Football.London.
The 27-year-old right-back really rose to prominence for Spurs last season, before impressing for England at the World Cup in Russia this summer, and he is now considered to be one of Pochettino’s most important players.
He didn’t feature for Tottenham yesterday, however, with Serge Aurier getting the nod to take on Rafa Benitez’s Magpies side.
The England international is surely still considered to be Spurs’ first choice right-back, however, and the Ivorian will have his work cut out, if he is to play regularly this season.
Pochettino spoke to reporters after the game against Newcastle, and responded when asked whether Trippier was forced to miss the game through injury, as quoted by Football.London:

“The players that played we considered ready to play. The players that are out of the squad are because the same situation, are all in the condition to train. Nobody is injured. Only it is to take the best decision. No, I think all arrived in a good condition to start the training and then it’s our decision to pick a starting XI and players on the bench.”
Trippier’s exertions in Russia this summer obviously played a huge part in him missing yesterday’s game, and he will surely feature for Tottenham at some point during their home game against Fulham next weekend.
