Tottenham Hotspur are set to meet Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.
Mauricio Pochettino has refused to give any clues away as to what formation Tottenham Hotspur will deploy against Chelsea when the two sides meet on Wednesday, as per his comments in the Guardian.
Tottenham played with a back three against Watford in their most recent outing, and the system worked brilliantly.
Spurs were at their very best, as they put Watford to the sword and picked up a 4-1 victory at Vicarage Road.
However, Pochettino would not comment on whether he would stick with the 3-5-2 formation against Chelsea, or revert to Spurs’ more familiar 4-2-3-1 system.
“We’ll see,” he said. “The formation we choose to play is not important – most important is the animation and how we move the ball.
“Today was a game where, from the outside, we can see the players were enjoying playing football on the pitch. Most important is the idea, the philosophy, and what we want to do with the ball – I think you give too much importance to the shape.”
When Tottenham met Chelsea earlier in the season, Pochettino matched up Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation.
In the first half, the tweak worked, as Spurs were on top. However, Chelsea turned things around and picked up a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have been in wonderful form since, and they have won their last 13 matches in a row to move to the top of the Premier League table.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are currently in fourth place in the top flight standings – 10 points behind the league leaders.
