Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he won’t speak about the possibility of Toby Alderweireld leaving the club this summer.

Spurs lost their unbeaten league run in 2018 with Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, and could only draw 1-1 with Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night.

This weekend, Spurs are back in FA Cup action, as they face Manchester United in the semi-finals of the competition at Wembley Stadium in pursuit of silverware.

One player who could be in contention for the game is defender Toby Alderweireld, who returned to the side against Brighton for his first Premier League appearance since October.

The Belgian international, 29, has been at the centre of a contract saga of late, as Spurs seemingly won’t match the defender’s demands for a contract extension.

Alderweireld has been out of the side due to injury in recent months, but many believe that he has been left out because of the situation regarding his contract, as Davinson Sanchez has started over him.

Now, manager Pochettino has been asked whether he has accepted that Alderweireld will move on this summer, but told Football.London that he won’t discuss such a situation, and will focus only on this weekend’s game.

“Look I’m not going to speak rumours,” said Pochettino. “There are a lot of rumours in recent months, not only about him but many other people, players. I think we need to be focused on the competition and Saturday and the FA Cup. I understand how the rumours appear and that business is, but we are focused on trying to prepare for the game and be competitive on Saturday and try to win the game that is in the end the most important thing,” he added.
