Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly interested in signing the Aston Villa midfielder in the summer.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media today, ahead of his side’s clash with Leicester City tomorrow, and responded when asked whether he will revisit his interest in Aston Villa star Jack Grealish in January, as quoted by Football.London.
Pochettino failed to sign a single player for Spurs during the summer transfer window, but Grealish was reportedly one of the Argentine’s key targets.
According to a report from the Telegraph, Tottenham actually made a £25 million bid for the Villa ace – one that was subsequently rejected.
Grealish, 23, has been in fine form for the Villans this season, chipping in with two goals and three assists in 20 Championship outings, so it is unlikely that the west Midlands outfit will be willing to sell him in January.
It would be no surprise to see Spurs go back in for him, however.
Pochettino responded to reporters today, when asked whether he will revisit his interest in Grealish in January, as quoted by Football.London:
“Look, I think there were plenty of players linked with Tottenham, not only last summer but in the previous season. You know it’s difficult to talk about rumours, about names. We’ll see what happens in January. We have a full squad, we have 28 in the squad. It’s impossible to sign players if we don’t have the space. We don’t have enough space at the moment. I think it makes no sense now to talk about signing players.”
Despite Poch’s comments, it is clearly evident that the Argentine needs to strengthen his squad in north London, if they are to challenge for the Premier League title anytime soon.
Whether the Aston Villa midfielder remains on the Tottenham manager’s wish-list, though, remains to be seen.
