The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been linked with an exit from the club this summer.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media last night, ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Ajax tonight, and responded when asked whether Christian Eriksen has already agreed to join Real Madrid, as quoted by Football.London.

The 27-year-old joined Spurs in the summer of 2013 for around £11.5 million, according to BBC Sport, and he has since gone on to be a real hit in north London, racking up 65 goals and 86 assists in 274 appearances in all competitions thus far.

Eriksen’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer of 2020, however, and Spanish media outlet AS claims that the Denmark international has already ‘verbally’ agreed to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Pochettino spoke to reporters yesterday, and responded when asked whether the rumours suggesting that Eriksen has agreed to leave Spurs are true, as quoted by Football.London:

“What you are asking me is about a rumour. Two different things. I’m not talking about rumours, he’s a player we want to keep. When people ask me in London about Frenkie De Jong it’s because they announce that they have agreed and he’s already signed. You are asking me about a player who is a Tottenham player who has had a lot of rumours in the media today and you can understand that I am not going to talk about rumours.”

Eriksen is a key player for Tottenham, and Pochettino will be desperate to keep hold of him this summer.

Should a substantial offer be made for his services, however, the decision might just be taken out of the Spurs manager’s hands.
