Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has played down fears over Harry Kane’s future.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he respects Tim Sherwood’s opinion, but Harry Kane’s future will solely depend on the Spurs striker.
Spurs striker Kane has been a sensation over the last three years, becoming the star of Pochettino’s side since his real emergence in the side in 2014.
Kane has now hit 103 goals in 171 games for Spurs, including 77 league goals since the start of the 2014-15 campaign, and he has won the Premier League Golden Boot in the last two seasons.
The 24-year-old is deservedly considering as one of the top centre forwards in world football, and as a boyhood Tottenham supporter, Kane is a fan favourite at Spurs.
As reported by the London Evening Standard back in December 2016, Spurs handed Kane a new deal to make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history, paying him over £100,000-a-week.
The problem for Spurs is that top strikers earn much, much more than that, and the disparity in wages between Kane and the world’s elite means some still aren’t convinced that Kane will stay with Tottenham long-term.
Former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood told Sky Sports earlier this week that he believes Kane will look to leave Tottenham next summer if they fail to win a trophy, noting that he may prefer to join a team like Barcelona, Real Madrid or even Manchester United.
Ahead of this weekend’s game against West Ham United, manager Pochettino has told Football.London that whilst he respects Sherwood’s opinion, Kane will be the one to make the final decision on his long-term future.
“I respect every single opinion,” said Pochettino. ”And of course Tim has the right to speak about Tottenham and Harry, of course. But that is a question more for Harry Kane, what he wants to do.”
“And only the answer is Harry Kane has the power and the decision and the possibility to say what he wants to do in the future,” he added.
