Manchester United reportedly want to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that the club will not sell Eric Dier in the summer transfer window.

Dier is one of the best players in the Premier League and can operate as a defensive midfielder or as a defender.

The 23-year-old has been on the books of Tottenham since the summer of 2014 when he joined from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £4 million.

According to a report in The Guardian earlier this month, Manchester United are interested in signing Dier in the summer transfer window.

Pochettino, though, has made it clear that he does not plan to sell the England international in the summer transfer window.

“I think it’s a good thing for us that many clubs are talking about our players,” Pochettino told Football.London when asked if Tottenham would be able to keep Dier given United’s interest.

“It means that we have good players in the squad. It’s different in the reality. Today there’s a lot of rumour in the media, a lot of stuff and things that happen. But it’s rumour, it’s nothing clear.”

“It’s another rumour,” added Pochettino when asked if Dier is staying. “Many many rumours.

“I try to be honest always and today it’s so calm and Dier is our player. I think he’s an important player for us and it’s not the idea to sell him.”

One can understand why United are (reportedly) interested in signing Dier this summer, but Spurs should do all they can to keep hold of him for next season at least.

The North London outfit have already sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City – one of their direct rivals for the Premier League title next season – and they cannot afford to lose another of their key players to another direct rival.
