Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he was impressed with Erik Lamela’s performance against Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday tonight.

Spurs hammered Stoke City 5-1 on Saturday afternoon to pick up a much-needed Premier League win, and they landed another home victory on Wednesday night against Brighton.

Serge Aurier’s seemingly wayward cross looped over Mat Ryan and into the net for a fortuitous opening goal, though Spurs toiled away in search of the second goal, with Tomer Hemed almost dragging Brighton back into the game.

However, Tottenham did eventually find the second goal, as Son Heung-min headed home Christian Eriksen’s free kick to give Spurs a 2-0 win.

Pochettino will be delighted with another home win, and particularly with the impact of winger Erik Lamela, who making his first Premier League start in 14 months.

The 25-year-old wide man has gone through injury hell since October 2016, and after a long, long road back to fitness, he finally started again on Wednesday night.

Fans were ecstatic to see Lamela make his comeback, and Pochettino offered his verdict on his performance after the final whistle.

Pochettino told Football.London that he felt Lamela brought ‘fantastic energy’ to the Spurs, noting that it’s ‘so important’ for Tottenham to have Lamela back in the fold after so long on the sidelines.

“I think it is so important, he brought fantastic energy to the team and the last few weeks too. It’s normal and he needs time to give his best,” said Pochettino. “I think it’s so important for the team to have him fit again and I think he’s going to help us a lot,” he added.
