Liverpool’s Adam Lallana was given a straight red card in an Under-23 game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he is expecting a message from Liverpool’s Adam Lallana over his red card in Monday’s Under-23 meeting between the two teams.
On Sunday, Liverpool and Spurs went head to head in the Premier League, and played out a dramatic 2-2 draw as Harry Kane rescued a point with a last-gasp penalty.
Just over 24 hours later, the two clubs met again, this time as the respective Under-23 sides faced off at Stevenage’s Broadhall Way stadium, and that game has raised its own talking points.

Tottenham claimed a 1-0 win thanks to Jack Roles’ goal, but that has almost been lost in the big story from the game, which surrounded Adam Lallana’s red card.
The Liverpool playmaker was given his marching orders in the second half for reacting to an aerial challenge from George Marsh, virtually strangling the Spurs youngster in a remarkable reaction.
Lallana won’t face a first-team ban, but the red mist descending on the England international has been a real talking point since the incident, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has now commented on the situation.
Pochettino has told Football.London that he hasn’t seen the incident yet but has heard all about it, noting that sometimes these situations happen in the heat of the battle.
Pochettino, who managed Lallana at Southampton, added that the midfielder is ‘very special’ to him, and expects a message from the Liverpool ace this week to clarify the situation.
“I hear, but i didn’t see the reaction,” said Pochettino. “It’s football sometimes this happen, I can not say nothing because Adam is a very special person for me, but sure he is going to send a message to us about what happened and then maybe have a better idea about the situation,” he added.
