Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has hailed Hugo Lloris as “one of the best” after the Frenchman produced a “fantastic” performance against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
Spurs put in a great performance to earn a 1-1 draw against Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League clash.
After a nervy opening few minutes, Spurs took the lead when Raphael Varane scored an own goal by diverting Serge Aurier’s cross into his own net. The home side restored parity through Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored from the penalty spot.
Lloris was one of the best performers on the night, and the French goalkeeper pulled off some stunning saves, including one from Karim Benzema.
Pochettino said that such performances deserve praise from everyone and that Lloris is one of the best in the world. He further added that Lloris had a “great game”, and made “great saves” to keep Spurs in the game.
“Hugo Lloris had a great game. We had chances at the end. Football doesn’t always reward you. Lloris has made great saves and Navas has made a great save against Harry Kane,” said Pochettino, as quoted by Football London.
“I think Hugo was fantastic. The performance of Hugo today is one that deserves praise from everyone. Sometimes in the Premier League we were talking, myself telling you that Hugo Lloris is one of the best and today you got to see why I told you a lot of times Hugo Lloris is one of the best in the world. The performance was fantastic.”
The result puts Spurs in a very good position to qualify for the knock out stages after Borussia Dortmund managed a 1-1 draw against Apoel.
