Mauricio Pochettino has showered high praise on England striker Harry Kane, and has compared him with legendary striker Gabriel Batistuta.
Ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, Pochettino was comparing strikers with lethal instincts – and on that context, he drew up the comparison.
The England striker, who has 21 caps under his belt, scored twice against Everton on Saturday and took his goal tally for Spurs to 101. He became the 17th player to have scored 100 or more goals for the north London club.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the most lethal finishers in the Premier League at the moment, but he is yet to make his mark among the Europe’s elites.
Now that Kane has opened his account for the campaign, Tottenham can expect him to deliver in the Champions League.
Kane said that Spurs are expecting a good Champions League campaign this year, and it is a big motivation for them to beat teams like Dortmund and Real Madrid.
Pochettino says that Batistuta was a killer, and Kane can be compared with him. He has placed the Argentine slightly above Kane, but believes that the Englishman can be better than him.
“Batistuta was a killer,” said Pochettino, as quoted by The Times. “And very strong mentality, very strong shot, great professional.
“I think yes, you can compare, but I put Batistuta there [raises hand above other] and Harry [just below]. But Harry can be better [than him]. He is a killer, Harry Kane. Just look at the goals he has scored the last years.
“Batistuta scored goals like Harry scored today. When you are a killer as a striker I think you need some luck, too.”
