Tottenham head coach pleased with debutant.
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino spoke highly of youngster Kyle Walker-Peters’ debut performance.
Walker-Peters played in his first Premier League game yesterday in the 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, putting in a strong display, and playing his part in the team keeping a clean sheet.
Speaking to Tottenham’s official website, Pochettino praised the right-back’s contribution.
He said: “He was fantastic.
“He was nominated Man of the Match – a better debut is impossible!”
Walker-Peters’ performance should calm any concerns over Spurs needing to buy another right-back.
Kieran Trippier is expected to soon recover from his ankle injury and he will be first choice, but Walker-Peters demonstrated he can be trusted as a stand in.
He is full of confidence after his performances for England under-20 side this summer as they won the World Cup.
It is crucial for his development he gets game time, and Tottenham have no qualms giving him his opportunity.
