The Tottenham Hotspur manager has had his say on the recent form of midfielder Dele Alli.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has defended the form of Dele Alli and believes the midfielder is a victim of his own high standards, Football London reports.
The England international has not quite hit the standards of last season, scoring only three times in 17 Premier League appearances after hitting 18 last campaign.
Alli’s recent performances, which have coincided with Spurs falling to seventh in the table, have come in for criticism from his own fans, and Pochettino has admitted his form has dipped.

However, the Argentine has reminded Alli’s detractors of how far he has come in his short time at Spurs and says that the youngster simply needs to strive for greater consistency.
Pochettino is quoted by Football London as saying: “His success in two and half is a massive, fantastic achievement but it is not that he is not doing good. He is doing good but sometimes the player needs to be consistent and needs time to go down to again go up.
“The most important thing for us now is our support. Club support. Coaching staff support. Provide them and trust them. You know, when some players – and you know it’s not in his case – some players are younger. Harry Winks, Harry Kane, different – the most important in a period that people feel that maybe it’s not doing his best, his trust, and provide them the better tools to improve to reach again the level before.

“But I am happy with him. My personality is to try to help and we were talking and I think this week was good for him but we need to understand he is only 21 years old.”
Pochettino’s comments rightly put Alli’s recent form into perspective. Spurs supporters have been spoilt by his past results and need to remain patient with one of the brightest talents in Europe.
Alli and his Spurs teammates travel to high-flying Burnley on Saturday looking for a response to the 4-1 beating they suffered at the hands of league leaders Manchester City last weekend.
