Tottenham Hotspur face Huddersfield Town in the Premier League tomorrow, before they welcome Juventus to Wembley in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Alderweireld, 29, has really struggled with injuries this term, having spent a prolonged spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury against Real Madrid in November.
Vertonghen, meanwhile, has been pretty much ever present for the Lilywhites, having missed his first Premier League game of the season during his side’s win at Crystal Palace last weekend.
Spurs are still fighting on three fronts this term, so Pochettino will be hoping for a full compliment of players to choose from, as his side head into the nitty gritty of the campaign.
The Argentine spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference today, and provided an update on the Tottenham duo ahead of what is a vitally important week for Spurs, as quoted by Football.London:
“We need to be cautious with him (Alderweireld). I think still we need to assess every day. I don’t believe he can be ready for Juventus. But yes, happy because Jan is back again and maybe he is available for tomorrow to play.”
Alderweireld’s future in north London is looking increasingly more uncertain with every week that passes, and the more that Tottenham continue to flourish in his absence, the more likely it seems that he will leave for pastures new in the summer.
