Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama is close to making a return from injury.

Wanyama damaged his knee during Tottenham’s match against West Ham United, sparking concerns over his fitness.

The Kenyan international has already missed much of the season through injury, and there were fears that he could be set for another lengthy lay off.

Wanyama will miss Tottenham’s match against PSV Eindhoven in midweek.

But there are hopes that he could return for Tottenham’s match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

“It was a different knee he injured and he’s close to being back and hopefully will be available for selection on Saturday,” Pochettino said.

Wanyama’s return will be good news for Spurs, as it should increase their options in central midfield.

Wanyama’s future at Tottenham does not appear to be all that secure though.

There have been rumours that the powerful midfielder could be sold in January, as Pochettino looks to make alterations to his line-up.
