Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela

Tottenham ace Erik Lamela has endured a torrid time with injuries over the past few years.

The Argentine arrived at Spurs from Roma in the summer of 2013 with a big reputation, but he has never really lived up to expectations.

He was out for over a year from October 2016 to November 2017, and it seems as though he has never really recovered form that.

When Lamela has played for Tottenham this season he has been nowhere near his best, and he seldom influences a game in crucial moments.

Mauricio Pochettino admitted to reporters today that it is hard to accept the 27-year-old’s constant injury problems, as quoted by Football.London:

Mauricio Pochettino manager

“We feel the same. Him, his family, us, the club, everyone. We feel very sad about his situation today. He is very disappointed, we are very disappointed. In the end it’s only a situation that we can be strong, thinking and try to find solutions and help him.”

“It’s true that it’s hard to have him, a player who is important and can help the team achieve those things, out of the squad. But we hope he can be available before the end of the season.”

Lamela is still under contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2022, but if his injuries persist, the north London outfit will surely look to move him on before the end of that deal.

The Argentine winger is on £80,000 per week at Spurs, according to Spotrac, and it is hard to argue that he has been worth that money since he joined the club.
