Fernando Llorente started for Tottenham Hotspur against Real Madrid in the Champions League last night.
Llorente joined Spurs from Swansea City during the summer transfer window, but he has been used sparingly by Pochettino so far.
Llorente is yet to start a Premier League match for Spurs, but the Spanish striker was included in Pochettino’s line-up to face Real Madrid in the Champions League.
And Pochettino was impressed with the performance the the target-man striker put in at the Bernabeu.
The Argentine boss said: “He joined us on September 1. He has trained very hard and very well over the international break.
“Today was an important game to have his experience. He is a world champion and he has a great understanding with the rest of his team-mates. He had a great performance and we are happy.”
Llorente is only ever likely to be given a back-up role at Tottenham, as Harry Kane is unquestionably Pochettino’s side’s main striker.
However, Kane and Llorente proved that they could work in tandem against Madrid yesterday, which could boost the 32-year-old’s chances of featuring more regularly from now on.
Tottenham managed to pick up a 1-1 draw against Madrid last night, after putting in a highly impressive performance.
Spurs took the lead when Rafael Varane put the ball in his own net, before Cristiano Ronaldo struck an equaliser for Los Blancos.
