Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente scored against Chelsea on Thursday.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he is happy with Fernando Llorente.

Pochettino made the comments about Llorente following the match against Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in London on Thursday evening.

The former Swansea City and Juventus striker scored for Spurs in the 50th minute of the encounter.

Tottenham lost the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final tie 2-1, and with the tie finishing 2-2 on aggregate, Chelsea won the subsequent penalty 4-2.

Pochettino told Football.London about Llorente: “Yes, of course he will have more chances to play. I am so happy with him. It’s difficult to be Harry Kane’s back-up, one of the greatest strikers in the world.

“This is an opportunity to play more. But he played 90 minutes against Fulham after not playing for a long period. We need to manage him in the best way.”

Hope for Fernando Llorente?

Llorente has struggled to make an impact at Tottenham since his move from Swansea in the summer of 2017, and even though he scored against Chelsea on Thursday evening, the striker’s performance was not exactly great.

With Harry Kane injured and Son Heung-min away on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup at the moment, Spurs need Llorente, who will have to step up and score goals regularly.

Perhaps this is now the time for the Spaniard to prove to Tottenham that they did not make a mistake when they signed him in the summer of 2017.
