Mauricio Pochettino has showered praise on Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham Hotspur recorded their first win in the Premier League at their temporary home, Wembley, by beating AFC Bournemouth 1-0 on Saturday.
Christian Eriksen scored the only goal of the match in the second half to earn all three points for the home side.
Spurs enjoyed a lion-share of possession (73%), and attempted 18 shots during the game. They managed six shots on target, as reported by BBC Sport.
It wasn’t a spectacular performance by any means, but Spurs did just enough to pick up the all-important three points.
Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris made a couple of fantastic saves during the match. Former Spurs player Jermain Defoe nearly scored against his old club, but Lloris was equal to the task.
The French goalkeeper also pulled off a big save after Eric Dier nearly turned a Bournemouth corner into his own net in the first half.
Pochettino described those two saves as “unbelievable”, and praised Lloris for his overall performance.
“Always though in this type of game, with counter-attacks, sometimes you can concede some chances and today was lucky because Hugo [Lloris] was unbelievable in two actions, but that’s always what you need, some luck and then play better,” said Pochettino, as quoted by Football London.
“In the collective performance was good and I am happy, but then of course we must focus on whoever scored, if it’s Harry or Christian. If Hugo saves it’s Hugo, or it’s Toby or Sanchez or Vertonghen that today was fantastic too.”
Spurs have now closed the gap with Manchester United to just two points, and are still five points behind league leaders Manchester City.
