Tottenham Hotspur won 1-0 against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League yesterday.
Mauricio Pochettino has told the Independent that he felt his decision to bring Georges-Kevin Nkoudou on for Vincent Janssen during the second-half of Tottenham Hotspur’s match with CSKA Moscow worked out very well.
Tottenham won 1-0 in Russia yesterday, with Nkoudou making a very positive impression.
The summer signing caused CSKA’s defence a number of problems during the match, and he helped Spurs pick up an important three points.
When Nkoudou came on the score was locked at 0-0, but he helped create an opportunity which Heung-Min Son scored from.
And Pochettino said: “We tried to find more mobility in our offensive position.
“It is for that we changed Vincent Janssen for Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, to have more pace down the sides. With their first touch they found the link, and it was a fantastic the goal.
“Sometimes when you change, it goes well and sometimes not. That is football. It gave a solution to the team.”
Nkoudou could now be pushing for a start for Spurs, with Janssen struggling to make the desired impact.
The Dutch forward was off the pace yesterday, and questions are now being asked of his ability.
Tottenham’s next match comes against Manchester City, and Son could be pushed up-front – leaving room for either Nkoudou or Erik Lamela to come back into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up.
