Tottenham Hotspur were in impressive form yesterday afternoon, as they thrashed Stoke City 4-0 at the Britannia Stadium.

It was a brilliant performance from Spurs and a needed one after a ropey start to the new campaign.

It was also a great game for South Korean attacker Heung-min Son. He scored two goals in a brilliant performance and it comes after a summer in which he was heavily linked with a move away from Spurs.

Son was linked with the likes of VfL Wolfsburg in Germany after a difficult first season at Spurs but his performance yesterday is, Spurs fans hope, a sign of things to come at White Hart Lane this season.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was also very impressed.

Speaking to the press after the game, as quoted by the Belfast Telegraph, he made it clear he was pleased that Son was not sold by Spurs this summer:

“Not only Son (was close to leaving), different players. Last season was tough for him and we have to make the decision, in or out.

“We took the decision for him to stay with us and I’m very pleased now. He had the opportunity to play and show he can help us. We’re very pleased for him.”

Son faces increased competition from the new signings of Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko. However, other direct competitors for a place in the Spurs first-team have left with Nacer Chadli and Clinton N’Jie both departing.

Son will therefore be looking to cement himself a place in the Tottenham team in the weeks to come.
