Tottenham Hotspur won against Sunderland in the Premier League on Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told The Daily Star that he found Sunderland boss David Moyes’s decision regarding Patrick van Aanholt strange.
Sunderland manager Moyes initially named Van Aanholt in his starting lineup for the Premier League match against Tottenham away from home at White Hart Lane on Sunday evening.
However, the Scotsman made a late change to his team, replacing the 26-year-old left-back with Jason Denayer, who joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
Tottenham manager Pochettino has admitted that he found the decision strange, and has stated that it surprised him.
“It was strange,” Pochettino told The Daily Star. “It was at the last moment when we were nearly going to the tunnel.
“I don’t know if he has some problem, because he was in the starting 11 when we exchanged the team sheets and at the last moment the delegate told us there was a change. It surprised me.”
Tottenham won 1-0 against Sunderland on Sunday evening, thanks to Harry Kane’s goal just before the hour mark.
The North London outfit are third in the Premier League table at the moment with 11 points from five matches.
As for Sunderland, the Black Cats remain in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
Moyes’s side are currently second from bottom in the standings with just a point from five games.
