New Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has a lot of work to do at Ibrox.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media today, and offered helpful words of advice to Steven Gerrard, as the Liverpool legend embarks on arguably the hardest challenge of his life as the new Rangers manager, as quoted by Football.London.
Gerrard, 37, was officially appointed as the new Gers boss today, after having agreed a four year deal with the Glasgow giants, according to Sky Sports News, in the wake of Grame Murty’s sacking earlier this week.
The former Liverpool and England captain has a lot of work to do at Ibrox, if he is to close the gap on Celtic over the the course of the next few years.
Gerrard’s immediate task, however, will be to secure a top two finish for the Gers.
They currently sit in third spot, three points adrift of second placed Aberdeen, but they still have their destiny in their own hands, with a trip to the Dons still to come this season.
Gerrard is a totally unproven commodity in the world of football management, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino gave the 37-year-old some wise words of advice, when speaking to reporters today, as quoted by Football.London:
“First of all it is to translate your ideas and convince the players to follow you – and not only the players. The staff, everyone, needs to believe in you. That is the hardest job. And of course you need some luck too, because that is important to, and enjoy it of course. Steven was an amazing, great player and it’s sure he has the experience to manage. I wish him all the best because it will be fantastic for football to have him as a manager and one day to challenge him.”
The new Gers boss’ immediate focus will be on his side’s home clash with Kilmarnock tomorrow, and a he will be desperate to guide his side to a win – a result that would keep alive their hopes of finishing second in the process.
