Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters after his side’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham today, and seemed to blame their loss on fatigue due to an accumulation of games, as quoted by Football.London.

Spurs had won their first four games in their new home, but that 100 per cent record was brought to a shuddering end by one of their fiercest rivals today.

Pochettino’s men will have to pick themselves up quickly with their Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Ajax just three days away.

Tottenham are missing some really important players at the moment, and whether they can compete with an in-form Ajax side remains to be seen.

Pochettino addressed the media today, and admitted that fatigue had a big part to play in his side’s defeat, as quoted by Football.London:

“I think it’s the reality. First half was good for us. Second half they were better. They felt more energy than us and we conceded a lot of space for them to run into. We didn’t find a way to manage the ball properly. It’s a little bit unfair the way we arrive in the competition but we can we do.?”

Ajax have not played at all this weekend, so Tottenham will have to summon the energy from somewhere, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of beating the Eredivisie outfit on Tuesday night.

With so many players out injured, however, it seems as though Spurs might have hit a brick wall at just the wrong time.
