Tottenham Hotspur have not won a major trophy since 2008.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters yesterday, in the aftermath of his side’s disappointing FA Cup exit to Crystal Palace, and offered a possible reason as to why his side have struggled over this past week, as quoted by Football.London.

Spurs are in real danger of losing their way this season, having crashed out of two domestic cup competitions in the last four days, and they will now have to focus all of their efforts on the Premier League and the Champions League, which won’t necessarily be a bad thing.

Tottenham currently sit in third spot in the Premier League table, nine points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, and they face a tricky last 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League next month.

The Lilywhites will be without key men Harry Kane and Dele Alli for the first-leg of that tie, so Pochettino will be keeping his fingers crossed that all of his other players remain fit between now and then.

In order for that to happen, however, he must rotate his team accordingly.

The Argentine spoke to reporters yesterday, and admitted that fatigue has played a big role in his side’s recent struggles, as quoted by Football.London:

“I think we came from a very crazy fixture [list] and were forced to take some decisions, rest some players and rotate. But like in the past we are going to play Wednesday too and Saturday. Always this is a disadvantage against our opponent. Watford played yesterday. It’s true, this season has been tough. I told you it would be a massive challenge for us, but at that point we believed it’ll be a tough season but not tougher than it’s been.”

Tottenham now face three consecutive home games in the Premier League against Watford, Newcastle United and Leicester City, before they welcome Dortmund to Wembley, and they will have to be at their very best, if they are to emerge from that period unscathed.
