Tottenham Hotspur are no longer targeting a striker, as they are keen to give Vincent Janssen a chance – according to reports.
Janssen joined Spurs from AZ Alkmaar last summer, and there were high hopes for the Dutch international’s first season in English football.
However, Janssen failed to live up to expectations during his first campaign in North London.
The 23-year-old netted just two goals in 27 Premier League appearances and never threatened Harry Kane’s first team place.
There were rumours that Janssen could be moved on this summer, but Pochettino has reportedly decided to keep the powerful forward at Spurs.
And Pochettino is also now said to have dropped his interest in signing a striker.
Tottenham had been thought to be on the look out for a new forward this summer, but that is no longer a priority addition.
The decision is a major risk for Spurs, and could come back to haunt them at the latter part of the campaign.
Janssen showed very little signs that he could become a prolific scorer in England, and his showing against PSG in pre-season was hardly inspiring.
While it would be foolish to write Janssen off entirely, Tottenham still need another forward – in case the target man’s struggles continue.
And by not signing a striker, Spurs could leave themselves short of goalscoring options, with so many of their Premier League title rivals strengthening this summer.
