Mauricio Pochettino has told BT Sport’s Between The Lines that he feels Tottenham Hotspur will always be “my club, my place”. The Paris Saint-Germain manager left Spurs towards the end of 2019 – after five years.
The 50-year-old joined Spurs from Southampton in May 2014, he clocked up a huge 293 appearances in all competitions as Spurs boss. He guided his side to numerous Premier League title challenges, during his time as boss.
He also, of course, took Tottenham to the Champions League final in 2018-19, and the Carabao Cup final in 2014-15. It was arguably, Tottenham’s best-ever spell under a manager in the club’s modern history.
He did all of it on a shoe string budget, boasting a core that included Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Hugo Lloris. He reflected on his Tottenham spell.
“It was an amazing journey, amazing time. Tottenham is my club, my place. When you really feel commitment, the people give everything, treat you well, it is impossible to forget that. Tottenham will always be a special club.”
Pochettino on Tottenham: A return in the offing, down the line?
The Argentine gaffer is impressing as PSG boss – guiding his side to 48 wins in 72 matches. With the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at his disposal – the Ligue 1 title is already, pretty much, wrapped up.
In the Champions League, PSG remain a hot favourite. They lead 1-0 from the first leg against Real Madrid, thanks to Mbappe’s injury-time goal last time out. In the future, though, there is plenty of time to return to Spurs.
Tottenham are delighted to have Antonio Conte at the helm, but the Italian only has a contract until the summer of 2023. Pochettino is still young in management terms and it is likely he will eventually return.
