Mauricio Pochettino uses Juventus as an example as Tottenham continue to struggle

Tottenham Hotspur have had a torrid time since losing the Champions League final in June.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated that he was told that Juventus are proof of how ‘difficult’ it can be for a team to recover after losing a Champions League final.

During this decade, Juventus have lost in the final of the European Cup competition on two occasions – against Barcelona and Real Madrid – Spurs tasted that unfortunate feeling in June.

Since then, the North London have struggled to produce any decent performances, as key players have looked off-colour and the club is now sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League clash against Red Star, Pochettino stated that he was ‘talking to someone’ regarding their current situation as he was told how Juventus initially found it difficult in Serie A after they lost their finals.

“Yesterday we were talking to someone,” Pochettino told Football.London.“We were talking and he said we need to tell something that’s important to know. Against Juventus, in 2016 he played the final in Barcelona and they lost the final. In November they were in Italy in Serie A in 13th or 14th place and saying how difficult it is when you lose a final.

“Talking about Juventus, one of the best clubs. I think it’s not to say nothing or to make excuses, it’s only how difficult it is to manage different things. I always tell you that it’s going to be important the three points tomorrow to be closer to the next stage of the Champions League and also for our confidence.

“But when the dynamic is as it is it’s important to be strong and know that we need to work so hard to turn around that negative dynamic. Of course, it’s going to be important tomorrow if we are able to win, it’ll be massive for our confidence.”

The difference between Spurs and Juve is that the North London club have off-field problems that the Italian giants didn’t have, so that has to be noted.

It’s tough dealing with losing a final as it is, but when certain players ask to depart and then they are still at the club in November, then it shouldn’t be a surprise if their form is out of the window.

Whilst Spurs haven’t been able to produce winning performances on a consistent basis recently, they are stopping themselves from suffering such abject defeats.
