Mauricio Pochettino has told Football London that Tottenham Hotspur’s fans now need to help the players.

Spurs have been in disappointing form this term, with frustrations rising among supporters.

Tottenham fans have questioned the commitment of their squad, after some lacklustre performances in recent weeks.

But Pochettino has asked Spurs fans to show the players that they have their backing, as they go through a very difficult period.

“It’s not about changing this chair for a sofa and move the table to another place because in the end we are the same,” Pochettino said.

“Most important now is to help them. What happened happened. The most important thing to provide calm. They are calm, they feel our support, from the coaching staff and the club and the fans, that they’re going to be there.

“Now is the moment to stay together and trust, of course trust in my decision. I will try to take the best decisions to win.”

To their credit, Spurs fans have generally stuck by their side well this term, but there is no doubting that frustrations are rising.

Spurs were beaten 7-2 by Bayern Munich before the international break, and then followed up that performance with an awful showing against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The pressure is now on Tottenham’s players to show that they really do have the fight for the season, and only three points will do at the weekend.

Spurs face bottom of the table Watford at home, and if they are beaten, then Pochettino’s request for the supporters to stay positive may well fall on deaf ears.
