The Tottenham Hotspur hitman hasn’t quite looked himself in recent weeks.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media today, ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday, and admitted that Harry Kane isn’t quite at his physical peak at the moment, as quoted by Football.London.

Kane, 25, has firmly established himself as one of the continent’s best strikers over the past few years, racking up an impressive 142 goals for Spurs since 2014, but it seems as though the amount of football that he has played is beginning to take its toll.

Many fans and pundits were calling for Kane to be rested during the international break, but he ended up playing 90 minutes against Spain on Saturday, before coming on as a 61st minute substitute against Switzerland on Tuesday.

Pochettino spoke to reporters today, and responded when asked whether the prolific hitman is not quite at his best level physically, as quoted by Football.London:

“For me it’s always, football is always about the collective. He needs to provide the team with his best, but maybe in the circumstances we are like a team, or when he plays with England it’s maybe not the best conditions for a striker to give the best.”

Kane will be a shoe-in to start against Liverpool, in spite of Pochettino’s words, and the England international will be looking to silence his critics with a match-winning display.
