Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino appeared to be in an spiky mood during his press conference yesterday.
Pochettino has been fairly spiky so far this summer whenever he has been quizzed by journalists, with some Tottenham fans fearing that he is frustrated over a lack of transfer activity.
And what looked like a fairly tame question about Lamela’s excellent display for Tottenham yesterday seemed to aggravate Pochettino.
The £30 million Argentine international (Daily Mail) had caught the eye as Spurs beat Madrid 1-0, with one run in the first half particularly memorable.
It was then put to Pochettino at full-time that Lamela had looked ‘very sharp’, but the Tottenham boss seemed to be angered by the comment.
“I think you cannot judge the players,” he said. “You need to ask if I am here like a manager which is my opinion about the game from individual player or collective. If you give me your opinion, I cannot say nothing if I am not agree with you.
“My job is to judge my team and players, but if your question is giving your opinion about how you see Lamela, I think I cannot change your mind if you believe a few minutes before that Lamela was good. If you believe he was good that’s your opinion and I’ve got to accept your opinion.”
Whether Pochettino’s apparent frustration is to do with the lack of transfers at Tottenham so far remains to be seen.
Spurs made a bright start to the summer by bringing in Tanguy Ndombele, but their business has stalled more recently.
Tottenham have not sold players that Pochettino was expecting to depart, and their bids for Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon have seemingly slowed.
Spurs still have time to make additions before the new season starts, with their first game coming against Aston Villa in just over a week’s time.
