Tottenham Hotspur signed Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told The Mirror that Moussa Sissoko was not to blame for Newcastle United’s problems last season.
Newcastle, who are one of the biggest clubs of England, suffered relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.
Sissoko did not play well for the Magpies, and his performances were largely inconsistent.
The 27-year-old midfielder, though, played well for France at the 2016 European Championship in the summer.
Tottenham signed the Frenchman from Championship club Newcastle in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £30 million.
Pochettino has launched a strong defence of Sissoko’s performances last season, claiming that it was not just because of the former Toulouse star that Rafael Benitez’s side went down to the Championship.
“It was not only Sissoko, the whole team at Newcastle, for different reasons [did not perform],” Pochettino told The Mirror.
“When the team does not perform as well, it’s difficult, and they were relegated. But it was all the team.
“When they don’t perform it’s lack of (this), lack of (that), but it’s not only one reason, it’s maybe many reasons that can affect the player.”
Sissoko is a good midfielder and has proven himself in the Premier League.
If the France international midfielder is able to add consistency to his game, then he will prove to be a brilliant signing for Tottenham.
