Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media yesterday, ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Manchester City on Monday night, and joked that the potential state of the pitch at Wembley might just play into his team’s hands, as quoted by Football.London.

Spurs play host to Pep Guardiola’s men at the national stadium just 24 hours after the NFL match between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars, and there are fears that the surface could be cut to shreds, especially if there is heavy rain throughout the day.

Tottenham have made a decent start to their Premier League campaign, and currently sit in fifth spot in the table, just two points adrift of league leaders City.

A win for Spurs on Monday night would see them climb above City in the table, and when speaking to reporters, Pochettino joked why the potential of an uneven surface at Wembley might just play into his side’s hands, as quoted by Football.London:

“No, maybe it’s good for us (potentially bad condition of the pitch) because we’re going to face one of the best teams in Europe or in the world.”

Spurs have the chance to lay down a real marker against Guardiola’s side on Monday, and if they manage to find a way of beating the champions, they will surely have to be considered as genuine challengers for the league title.
