Mauricio Pochettino in talks with Nice weeks after discussions with Chelsea

OGC Nice are reportedly in talks to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, with the former Tottenham coach recently in discussions to succeed Thomas Tuchal at Chelsea before missing out on the job.

According to Foot Mercato, the Ligue 1 side are keen to appoint the Argentine as a replacement for Lucian Favre, with Nice starting off the new season in terrible fashion despite an exciting transfer window where the French club signed the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Ross Barkley and Nicolas Pepe on loan.

Pochettino has been out of the job since being sacked by PSG at the start of the summer, with reports suggesting that the South American was in contention to join Chelsea after their dismissal of Tuchel, however, it was Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter who was appointed by the Blues.

Regarded by many as Tottenham’s best-ever manager in the Premier League era, being appointed by a club like Nice could be perfect for Pochettino given the fallout of his recent tenure with PSG, which many could argue was a failure given his lack of success in the UEFA Champions League and losing out on the 2021 Ligue 1 title to LOSC Lille.

Indeed, Nice are a similar club to Tottenham in that they’re quite an ambitious side yet one who have not experienced much success in terms of trophies despite yearly improvements in the league, and appointing someone like Pochettino could be an excellent step in the right direction for the French Riviera team.

The Argentine has proven to be a perfect manager for a club looking to undergo a project, and Nice are viewed as a club in France with the potential to become one of the biggest in the country if they appoint the right man for the job, with Pochettino fitting the bill to a tee.

Pochettino’s talent as a manager is clear for anyone who watched the Argentine’s career at Tottenham, where the former Southampton boss took the north London side from a team with potential to one of the best in England even to an unlikely Champions League final, and a similar story could happen if he is to join Nice.

After all, the French club are one of the most ambitious in France and could be the perfect platform for Pochettino to create his next dynasty, and the current crop of players at the Argentine’s disposal are more than ideal for the South American coach to do well this season.
