Mauricio Pochettino has offered Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen some hope in his battle to turn his White Hart Lane career around, with his comments to Football.London.

Janssen was brought to Spurs last summer, but he has failed to make much of an impression at the North London club.

The Dutch striker has found it difficult to hit the back of the net since moving to Tottenham, but he did make an impact after coming off the substitutes’ bench against Millwall in the FA Cup yesterday.

Janssen scored his first Tottenham goal from open play against the League One side.

And Pochettino has suggested that he has been impressed with Janssen in training lately.

“Yes, of course. I told you that in the last few months he has stepped up and started to work better, and I was happy in the way he was performing in training,” Pochettino said.

Janssen may have a chance to impress at Tottenham in the coming weeks, as Harry Kane is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Kane damaged his ankle, and could be out for the rest of the season.

It leaves Spurs looking for a new striker to lead the line, with Janssen and Heung-Min Son the most likely candidates to replace Kane.

Son scored a hat-trick for Tottenham against Millwall yesterday, with Pochettino admitting he was very impressed by the South Korean international.

“It’s about the team. It’s about the team performance. With different names and different players,” Pochettino added. “We need to try and win different games and score goals. My job is to select only 11 players in every game, but I was always happy with Sonny.

“I’m sad about the Harry injury, but now it’s about trying to find a solution and seeing who is the best player to replace him.”
