Tottenham Hotspur’s results really are something to write home about, especially when compared to previous Premier League seasons.
Mauricio Pochettino is getting fantastic performances from young players like Dele Alli
Tottenham may be stuck in second, seven points off leaders Chelsea, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that they are exhibiting title-winning form.
That’s because, with 65 points from 30 matches, they have a tally of two-and-a-sixth points-per-game that would have been enough to win the title in nine of the previous 24 Premier League seasons.
That includes last season where Leicester City topped the table with 81 points. At their current rate, Spurs will finish this campaign with 82.
However it should be pointed out that last season is one of only two in the past 15 years where 82 points would’ve left you Champions, the other being the 2010-11 campaign.
The one time the division was won with 82 points – by Manchester United in 1995-96, its first year with only 20 teams – they had a positive goal difference of 38. With eight games left, Tottenham already have the same goal difference.
Last season’s third-place finish was Spurs’ best in the Premier League
While these figures will be of scant consolation to Mauricio Pochettino, they do again demonstrate the progress he is making at the club.
His team have won their last five games and are on course to smash their previous record of 72 Premier League points, even if catching Chelsea looks unlikely.
