Pochettino had been weighing up whether to recall Onomah from his loan spell at Villa for much of January, but the youngster will now stay with Steve Bruce’s side for the rest of the season.
And Pochettino has made the right call by leaving Onomah with Villa.
Onomah has played a key role for Steve Bruce’s side this season, and his development is far better served there than back at Spurs.
The 20-year-old has now made 26 appearances for Villa, and will surely have an important role to play in the promotion race, as Bruce’s side aim to get back into the Premier League.
That experience of playing under pressure could be vital for Onomah’s development, and would surely be better for him than sitting on Spurs’ bench.
Onomah may have been afforded a few minutes if he moved back to Tottenham, but the youngster wasn’t ever likely to return and be thrown straight into Pochettino’s starting line-up.
And although Spurs may be worried that they have left themselves short of cover in midfield by leaving Onomah at Villa, Pochettino has made the right call for the youngster’s progression by keeping him out on loan.
