Celtic managed to bring in a new centre back before the transfer deadline, and Mauricio Pochettino certainly knows all about new man Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The Bhoys had already added three new centre backs over the summer with Osaze Urhoghide, Carl Starfelt and Liam Scales all arriving.

Ange Postecoglou still wanted one more though, and had to wait until the very end of transfer deadline day to strike a deal for Carter-Vickers.

Celtic have taken the Tottenham Hotspur defender on loan for the season with a view to a permanent move as he finally seeks a home.

The United States international is now in his seventh loan spell away from Tottenham after stints with Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, Luton Town and Bournemouth.

Now 23, it’s quite clear that Carter-Vickers just isn’t going to break into Tottenham’s first-team plans, though he was once highly regarded there.

Mauricio Pochettino kept him around the first-team picture in terms of training and preparation, but may have regretted that at one stage.

Speaking to The Telegraph in 2017, Pochettino admitted that he tried to challenge Carter-Vickers in training and came off second best.

Pochettino suggested that Carter-Vickers ‘crushed everyone’ and hurt his hand, pointing to just how powerful the centre back is when defending.

“I did it today again. I challenged with Cameron and hurt my hand. He crushed everyone in the box,” said Pochettino.

Celtic fans will now be looking forward to seeing this play out – especially against Rangers, with fans no doubt hoping he will flatten a Ger or two.
