Tottenham Hotspur have been left somewhat short in the right-back department.
Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media during his pre-match press conference today, and suggested that he might get creative in a bid to solve his right-back problems, as quoted by Football.London.
Spurs sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid earlier this summer, whilst Juan Foyth picked up an injury during a pre-season friendly that will likely keep him out until at least September.
Pochettino does have Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters to call upon, but neither have played regularly or consistently enough for Tottenham to have the Argentine’s full trust.
And without giving much away, Pochettino suggested that he could get creative in his selection at right-back over the course of the next few weeks, as quoted by Football.London:
“You know me, I am so brave, we can create players who can play in different positions. We try to find the best solution and I love the challenge to try and create that dynamic.”
Aurier is the obvious candidate to fill in at right-back, but judging by Poch’s comments, he could opt to use either Davinson Sanchez or Eric Dier.
Aston Villa will be buzzing heading into the game against Tottenham, so Pochettino’s men will have to be at their very best, if they are to kick off their campaign with a win.
Spurs have a whole host of players unavailable for the contest, however, including the likes of Dele Alli, Heung-Min Son and Ben Davies, so three points will be anything but a certainty.
