West Bromwich Albion take on Spurs at Wembley this weekend.
Speaking to Football London, Mauricio Pochettio has reiterated his affection for West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez.
The Baggies hitman will be reunited with Pochettino on Saturday when West Brom make a trip to the capital for a clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
The Spurs boss knows just how dangerous Rodriguez can be, having managed him at Southampton.
The 28-year-old managed a little over 100 Premier League appearances in a five-year spell at St Mary’s which was hindered by injury at times, but Pochettino is glad that his former striker – who has started all 12 of West Brom’s games this season, scoring twice – seems to be over his struggles.
“I think he’s a very good player. I’m so happy he’s now recovered the feeling from a few years ago. He’s a fantastic striker, a player that deserves all the best because he’s a great professional and a great man,” he told Football London.
“I’m happy that he’s starting to feel better after a massive injury. He’s still young and still can be one of the best strikers in England.”
Sentiment aside, the Argentine will be desperate for Spurs to keep him out on Saturday.
Tottenham go into the game on the back of a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund to win their Champions League group and enhance an exciting European campaign.
But it hasn’t always been as simple in the Premier League and Pochettino’s side slumped to a 2-0 defeat by Arsenal last weekend and fell 11 points behind Manchester City at the summit in the process.
That being said, they definitely should have enough to topple an Albion side who will have Gary Megson in charge temporarily following Tony Pulis’s dismissal earlier this week.
