Dier was awarded a new five-year contract at Spurs on Tuesday.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told the club’s official website that everyone at the club looks up to Eric Dier because of his determined and winning attitude.
Dier signed a new five-year deal at White Hart Lane on Tuesday, marking the second time he has signed improved terms since signing his initially five-year contract upon his arrival at the club two years ago.
The 22-year-old has developed into an important player for club and country under Pochettino’s guidance, and has been converted from promising central defender into top-class holding midfielder.
Dier made 51 appearances for Spurs in all competitions last season and has won 12 England caps in the last 10 months after only making his senior national debut last November.
However, Pochettino says it is the young star’s hard work off the field and professional attitude which is most impressive, and suggested that despite his young age Dier is a player who everyone at the club aspires to emulate.
The Argentine manager told the club’s website: “It’s fantastic for us young players to have a manager with his attitude and work rate. It’s something we all look up to.
“Every day we want to improve. We beat Stoke 4-0 on Saturday but he will want everything from us as if we lost 4-0, that’s his attitude and it’s fantastic for us young players to be around someone who is like that, always working at 100 per cent, always wanting to improve.
“He wants to improve and we want to improve. It’s a fantastic mix.”
Dier has started this season well, starting all four of Tottenham’s Premier League games, and is expected to keep his place for the Champions League group-stage opener against AS Monaco at Wembley on Wednesday night.
