Mauricio Pochettino gives his honest view on Moussa Sissoko after beating West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur beat West Ham United 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he thinks Moussa Sissoko is a ‘very honest’ player – but Spurs are aware of his limitations.

Spurs made the short trip to the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as they took on West Ham United in their first game back from the international break.

It was Pochettino’s side who claimed all three points, as Sissoko cut in from the right and sent in a left-footed cross, which Erik Lamela headed home.

Spurs will be delighted with their 1-0 win ahead of a Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night, and the role of Sissoko was key.

The former Newcastle fan has been widely unpopular with Spurs fans since his move to North London in August 2016, and many were even surprised that he wasn’t sold over the summer.

French international Sissoko, 29, was handed a second successive Premier League start on Saturday, and picked up an assist in a strong performance from the midfielder.

After the game, Pochettino was asked about Sissoko given that Spurs fans are generally not huge fans of his, and the Argentinian offered an honest view on his midfielder.

Pochettino told Football.London that he thinks Sissoko is ‘honest and professional’, praising him for bringing balance to the Spurs squad, but admitted that Spurs are aware of his limitations and can’t ask him to do certain things, but feels he is good for the team and may just be turning the opinions of some fans.

“I think he’s a very honest, professional player,” said Sissoko. “You know what you are going to receive from him. I think the squad always in 25 players you need different type of players and I think Moussa provides the team with a very good balance. I am happy that the fans are starting to see him like a player who helps the team and helps the club and recognise his value.”

“Of course we cannot ask him to do different things, or things we can ask of another player, but he will always give you all that he has inside. That is very good for the team. I am so happy that the fans start to recognise his value,” he added.
