Tottenham Hotspur are currently in second place in the Premier League table.

Mauricio Pochettino has fired back at pundits who have criticised Tottenham Hotspur after their defeat to Liverpool in the Daily Mirror.

Tottenham were placed under heavy scrutiny after losing at Anfield, as their performance was poor.

Spurs never threatened in the contest, and fell to a 2-0 defeat – with their title hopes effectively being ended.

Some pundits suggested that Tottenham’s squad lacked an x-factor after the match.

But Pochettino defended his players, he said: “Maybe they [the pundits] know better than me.

“Sometimes it is about coping with the level and the competition. Today we were poor and feel very disappointed but be careful – it is only our third defeat in the Premier League and we are one point above Liverpool still.”

Tottenham are still in second place in the Premier League standings, but they are now 10 points behind league leaders Chelsea.

Spurs also have the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool breathing down their necks – with the race for a top four spot hotting up.

Tottenham are next in action on Thursday evening, when they take on Gent in the Europa League.
