Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the press ahead of their clash with West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League this weekend.

The game will see the London side going up against a former player in Nacer Chadli. The Belgian international left Spurs in the summer and has been in good form for the Baggies since making his move – scoring three goals in four games.

Speaking at his press conference today, as reported by the Hampstead and Highgate Express, he discussed the sale of Chadli insisting it was a very amicable process:

“It was all clear with him.

“He asked me before the end of last season if he had the facility to go and play more for another team.

“I said to him ‘you are in my plans but if you want to leave and it’s the right club and the right price then ok, it’s not a problem’. In the end he chose to go to West Bromwich. Both clubs arrived at a deal and that was all that happened.”

Spurs fans will of course fear their former player getting one over on them this weekend – after his excellent start to life at West Brom.

Pochettino also spoke about more potential new contracts being signed at White Hart Lane in the weeks to come.

Spurs have recently handed out plenty of new deals to first-team players and reports in Belgium have suggested Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are next.

But Pochettino claims there is currently nothing in the pipeline:

“There’s no news.

“You know I’m very honest. How many times have I said ‘next week’? Now it’s all calm, all quiet.”

Spurs fans are no doubt happy with the club’s start to the season and with the new deals that have been agreed with several first-team regulars.

If Tottenham can continue their form this weekend, and keep Chadli quiet, the smiles in North London will only broaden.
